I'm hoping to transfer my newer hard drive to the new computer. I hate to lose the shows as my relatives love for me to fire up the computer on holidays and run some of my shows. I have been using the collect show files and putting them on a flash drive. I was hoping there would be an easy answer but I figured it would be a lot of work. And like I said earlier, keep that old PC on the shelf for a few months until you are absolutely certain that all is working well on the new box. Install each application on the new PC, copy it's associated data, reboot 12 or 13 times, and then test your application. They are all junk and will mess up your new machine - especially when jumping to a completely new opsys, like from XP to Windows 7. I have yet to find a software solution that WILL satisfactorily "move" your applications and data from one PC to another.
Windows, with it registry system and special purpose folders like My Documents, etc. Photodex support may have a recommended procedure for you to follow - worth the toll free call to ask what they recommend.įor all you other data files, you may very well run into similar scenarios. When I replace my laptop, I'm opting for the "collect shows" solution. So, you can collect all your Proshow stuff ahead of time (if you have enough disk space for all the copies) or you can spend the time after the fact checking your shows and using the search feature in Proshow. I do this after I complete a show so I don't have to worry about breaking any of my Proshows by moving files around on my file system. The "collect show files" feature DOES copy all the files used in a show into whatever folder you specify. ALL file in a given show that are located in that folder will be "found" by Proshow. If you misplace files Proshow needs, it will present a search dialog for you and you only need to navigate to the correct folder (not each file). If the photos and sound files are in your "My Documents" folder, I'm willing to bet it gets even more complex since that folder is actually under "user name" folder on Windows. If you move a photo or sound file after using it in a Proshow production, will "break" your show. It opens the files wherever they reside on your system. The reason for this is that Proshow does not move or copy your files. Alexandra is correct about the Proshow folder structure.
